Man dies in sea after ‘concerns for safety’ of two people at Essex …
A man has died during an incident in the sea at Thorpe Bay. Essex Police said they were called to Thorpe Bay Esplanade at around 5pm on Thursday (October 5). They had received reports of a concern for safety of two people in the water.
Officers supported the Coastguard and one man was rescued safely. Tragically, however, another man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local reports claimed a large emergency services presence was spotted at the scene of the incident. Several ambulances, helicopters and police cars were reported as being in attendance.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “Officers were called to Thorpe Bay Esplanade at around 5pm on Thursday, 5 October following reports of a concern for safety of two people in the water.
“Essex Police supported the Coastguard and one man was rescued safely. sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is not believed to be suspicious, and his family are aware.”
HM Coastguard added: “HM Coastguard responded to reports of two people in difficulty in the water in the Thorpe Bay area, Southend, yesterday, 5 October. Alerted at around 4.40pm, lifeboats and hovercraft from Southend RNLI, Coastguard Rescue Teams from Southend and Canvey Island and the Coastguard helicopter from Lydd were sent to the scene. East of England Ambulance Service, an air ambulance and Essex Police were also in attendance.”
The East of England Ambulance Service and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for further comment.
