Man arrested after A55 crash which sparked major delays for drivers
A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a crash involving a car and lorry on the A55. The collision occurred just before 12.50pm near junction 38 over the border by Eccleston, Chester.
A lane on the westbound carriageway was closed for over two hours as Cheshire Police and the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) dealt with the incident. The lane closure resulted in approximately three miles of congestion on the A55[1] with delays of around 30 minutes.
Both drivers were taken to hospital, a NWAS spokesperson said. The driver of the silver Ford Mondeo suffered head and arm injuries while the Scania HGV driver suffered injuries to his arm.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary said: “Shortly before 12.50pm on Tuesday 3 October, police were called to reports of a collision near junction 38 of the A55[4] near Eccleston, Chester. The collision involved a silver Ford Mondeo and a Scania HGV truck.
“The driver of the Mondeo, a 28-year-old man, sustained minor injuries to his arm and head and was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital as a precaution. He was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving.
“The road was reopened shortly after 3.02pm.”
