Lorry flees crash as cyclist in hospital with serious injuries …

A cyclist could have "life-changing injuries" after a crash involving a lorry in Wigston[1] this morning. Leicestershire Police were called to Aylestone Lane at around 9am but the lorry had left the scene before officers arrived.

Aylestone Lane was closed in both directions near the Viking Road industrial estate while the incident was dealt with. The cyclist, who has not been identified, was taken to hospital.

The force said that the cyclist had "possible life-changing injuries". An area of the junction remains taped off blocking access to the industrial estate.

Two cars remain at the scene, inside the cordon, but LeicestershireLive[3] understands they were not involved in the collision. Officers are carrying out inquiries and is urging anyone with information relating to the incident to get in touch with the force.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police[4] said: "Shortly after 9am today (Monday 30 October) police were called to a report of a collision involving a lorry and a cyclist at the junction of Aylestone Lane and Viking Road, Leicester.

"The cyclist has been taken to hospital with possible life-changing injuries. The driver of the lorry left the scene before police arrived and enquiries are currently ongoing."

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101, quoting incident 164 of 30 October.
