A34 traffic news after crash today closed road near Abingdon – recap

The A34 has reopened in Oxfordshire following a crash today (Tuesday, October 3). Motorists faced long delays throughout the day as a result of the incident.

The collision, which happened on the A34 southbound[1], involved a lorry which crossed through the central reservation barrier near Abingdon. The incident was first reported Inrix, the traffic and travel data company, at 6.55am.

A diversion route was put in place and emergency services[2] were at the scene. However, the incident is now cleared.

The road was closed between the A4183 Oxford Road and A415 Marcham Road. The lorry crossed over the carriageway[4] onto a grass verge.

The incident initially closed the A34 in both directions, but the northbound carriageway re-opened. Inrix said: “A34 Southbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident, a lorry into the central reservation involved from A4183 Oxford Road (Abingdon[5] North) to A415 Marcham Road (Marcham Interchange).

“Congestion to the Hinksey Hill Interchange. Closure is now just in place southbound.”
