Kent area to have seen the biggest house price rises in 23 years

Thanet[1] has seen the biggest boom in house prices of anywhere in Kent[2] since the show Location, Location, Location first aired 40 series ago. The popular Channel 4 property show returned to our screens on Wednesday (October 25) for its 40th series.

The average house cost £78,810 in England and Wales when the show first aired back in May 2000, according to data from the Land Registry. That’s since shot up to £299,715 according to the latest figures, a jump of 286 per cent.

But the rise in the average price hasn’t been equal across the UK. Manchester has seen the biggest percentage rise of any local authority in the country.

The average house in Manchester cost £41,625 back in May 2000. That has since shot up to £241,956 according to the latest data.

That’s a rise of 481 per cent, almost six times higher than when Location, Location, Location first aired. The City of London has seen the next largest percentage increase in house prices since Location, Location, Location first aired.

Homes there now cost 408 per cent more than they did 23 years ago. Hackney is next at 394 per cent, followed by Waltham Forest at 390 per cent, Leicester at 384 per cent, Thanet at 373 per cent, and the Isle of Anglesey at 386 per cent.

Thanet[5] has seen the largest increase of any local authority in Kent[6]. Homes there cost £64,256 on average back in May 2000. That’s shot up by 373 per cent to £304,161 today.

Folkestone[7] and Hythe[8] has seen the next largest increase going from an average of £74,626 to £341,649 (358 per cent). That’s followed by Shepway (£74,626 to £341,649 a rise of 358 per cent), Medway[9] (£70,638 to £303,367, a rise of 329 per cent), and Dover[10] (£73,606 to £315,109, a rise of 328 per cent).
