Hundreds of creatures wash up on Cleethorpes beach in wake of …
People visiting Cleethorpes[1] over the weekend were left "saddened" to discover hundreds of dead sea creatures strewn across the beach in the wake of Storm Babet.
While members of the public - along with volunteers from Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue - scrambled to save as many as they could, a lot had sadly already passed away.
Fascinating pictures of the hundreds of starfish and other sea creatures on the resort's beach have emerged across social media, with people describing the sight as "saddening".
A spokesperson for Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue wrote: "Nature is cruel. It was reported to us that hundreds of starfish had washed up in the latest tide.
"Many had already passed away but thankfully with the help of this family (the young girl picking up and taking them to her parent to see if they’re alive) and that of our volunteers, we were able to get around 200 alive starfish out of open air and into rock pools or deep puddles.

"We urge people not to take starfish home and do not disturb them in their rock pools or puddles. As we say nature is cruel so please don’t make it more difficult for them. It’s also worth mentioning that dog walkers should take extra caution as anything could’ve washed up in the tide."
One member of the public told Grimsby Live: "My husband and I went for a walk in the afternoon and were saddened by the amount of dead sea life strewn across the beach.
"Most of the starfish had perished, but a lot of the shell fish were alive. We moved them to the rock pools to await the incoming tide."

She wrote: "My children and I walked along the beach today and picked up around 200+ starfish and put them back in the water.. so many were stranded in the sand, took us a few hours but worth it."
"Such a shame that so many creatures have been washed up," one person wrote.
Another commented: "I've been amazed and also saddened by all the photos."
