Firefighters tackle flames at Ivybridge house blaze

Fire crews rushed to a fire at a house in Ivybridge[1] yesterday (October 26) after multiple reports of smoke coming from the property’s roof. It is believed the fire started sometime before 4.10pm with crews from Camels Head, Greenbank, Ivybridge and Modbury all attending the scene.

Crews battled the flames and attempted to prevent the fire from spreading until 8.40pm when it was confirmed the blaze had been extinguished. In an update published on the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue website, it stated that the fire had been started by a bathroom extractor fan.

The update reads: “The fire, which started accidentally in an extractor fan in a first floor bathroom, then spread to the roof space.

“Crews worked well to prevent the fire spreading any further, using four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, safety jets and ladders to extinguish it, before thoroughly checking for hotspots with thermal imaging cameras.”

Although the incident is over a fire engine will be returning to the address later today for a safety check. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue confirmed no injuries had been reported.
