Edinburgh van driver caught with ‘smashed windscreen and bag …

An Edinburgh van driver[1] was pulled over by police on the city bypass after supposedly driving with a smashed windscreen and a taped-up door.

Road policing officers came across the bizarre incident on the A720[2] on Saturday morning, October 7, and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to upload images of the vehicle.

They hit out at the driver for “thinking it was acceptable” to drive the vehicle given the condition it was in and snapped pictures of the heavily damaged windscreen as well as one of the doors covered with a black bag which was taped down.

Officers reported the driver for dangerous driving and made sure the vehicle was prohibited from driving any further. They added: “EdinburghRP stopped this vehicle on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass earlier today.

“The driver thought driving their vehicle in this condition was acceptable. Driver reported for dangerous driving & vehicle also prohibited from driving any further.”

The van’s windscreen was also completely smashed.

Elsewhere in the capital, road policing officers pulled over a vehicle as the driver was ‘known not to have a license’. When they approached, officers reportedly detected “white powder” around the driver’s nose.

They were subsequently charged with no license and insurance as blood were also taken for analysis. Road Policing Scotland posted: “EdinburghRP stopped a driver as they were known not to have a licence.

“This was the least of their worries, when the white powder around their nose was positive for cocaine. Driver was charged with no licence and no insurance, with blood taken to be sent for analysis.”
