Edinburgh Lothian Buses forced to avoid neighbourhood due to …

Several Edinburgh buses were forced to divert from a busy neighbourhood due to ‘antisocial behaviour’.[1][2]

Lothian Buses were unable to serve Niddrie Mains Road and Peffermill Road for nearly two hours on Saturday night due to what they described as “antisocial behaviour” as diversions were put in place.

The bus operator put out a service alert around 9pm informing passengers that they were experiencing delays in the area, and later said they were unable to serve Peffermill Road and Niddrie Mains Road altogether.

The alert read: “Due to antisocial behaviour, buses are unable to serve part of Peffermill Road and Niddrie Mains Road and are instead diverted via Old Dalkeith Road, Little France Drive and Greendykes Road in both directions until further notice.”

It is understood that normal service resumed shortly after 11pm as the 2, 14 and 30 were all affected.

Last month, we reported[6] how a similar situation unfolded on Ferry Road, Pennywell Road and Pennywell Gardens as the areas were avoided to ensure the safety of staff and passengers onboard.

Responding to that particular incident, a spokesperson for Lothian Buses said: “Lothian is committed to providing a safe and reliable service for all of our customers.

“Lothian has a zero tolerance approach to antisocial behaviour and will not hesitate to remove services from particular areas for a period of time if necessary to keep our colleagues and customers safe.” The transport provider was approached for comment in relation to Saturday night’s incident.
