Edinburgh drivers in hour-long queues on city bypass as ‘incident …

Edinburgh motorists on the city bypass have been warned after delays of up to an hour due to an ‘incident’.[1][2]

It is understood the bypass at Baberton has been queued back for several hours on Monday afternoon with traffic[3] now slow all the way back to the M8 at Hermiston Gait.

Traffic Scotland has said there are longer delays than usual due to an incident near Baberton, although it is unknown what the incident is at this moment in time. A breakdown at the Hermiston Gait junction has also caused delays with police pictured at the scene.

Traffic cameras at Hermiston Gait, Baberton and Calder all show huge tailbacks forming with delays expected to be around 55 minutes. Several motorists have also responded to Traffic Scotland on X, formerly Twitter, saying they have been stuck ‘for hours’.

One said: “If the overhead signage was updated people would get off at Newbridge but there is no warnings before the junction. I have now been in the traffic for 55 minutes for a 2.8 mile journey.”

Another added: “This has been ongoing for hours m8 eastbound gridlock from J2 to Hermiston Gait.”

At around 3pm, Traffic Scotland said: “UPDATE: 15:01: A720 Baberton experiencing delays of approx. 55 minutes Eastbound due to an incident with traffic backing up to Junction 2 of the M8.”

Police Scotland were approached for comment.
