E-scooter rider dies after crash with van in residential Essex road

A man has been arrested after an e-scooter rider was killed following a fatal collision in Canvey Island on Friday (October 27). The incident happened on Harvest Road where emergency services were called shortly after 5.50pm.

East of England Ambulance Service and Essex Police attended the scene following reports of the collision involving an e-scooter and a van. The male e-scooter rider, aged in his 20s, was rushed to hospital after suffering serious injuries.

Police confirmed he later died in hospital. A 49-year-old man, from Southend, was arrested and questioned on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. He has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

An investigation into the incident is still ongoing. An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We are investigating a fatal collision which took place on Canvey Island.

“Our officers were called by ambulance service colleagues to the scene, in Harvest Road, shortly after 5.50pm on Friday 27 October. It was reported a van and an e-scooter had been involved in a collision.

“The rider of the e-scooter, a man aged in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and, sadly, later died in hospital. His family is being supported and our investigation into this incident is ongoing.

“A 49-year-old man, from Southend, was arrested and questioned on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. He has been released on bail while enquiries continue.”
