Council issues Burton road closure update after car smashed into …

Council officials say they had been working to ensure a terrace house hit by a car is safe - before the road outside could fully reopen. Emergency services had descended on Burton's Branston Road on Tuesday afternoon.

They discovered a Volkswagen Golf had ploughed into a property and also damaged a lamppost - with the driver taken to hospital. A road closure was put in place while emergency services dealt with the incident while barriers stayed in place yesterday.

Today East Staffordshire Borough Council says the road can now get back open. A spokeswoman told StaffordshireLive: "The council has been working with the property owners to make the site safe prior to re-opening the road. This work has now been completed and we will be advising Staffordshire County Council that they may remove their traffic management from Branston Road.”

The collision took place around 1pm. As previously reported by StaffordshireLive[3], Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service sent a crew from Burton to the scene.

A spokesman said: "We found a red Volkswagen Golf in collision with a lamppost and a house. Firefighters helped with the recovery of the car.

"The crew left the scene at 2.20pm. The driver was taken to hospital was a precaution. The incident has been left with Staffordshire Police and the local authority."

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called at 1pm yesterday (October 17) to reports of a collision on Branston Road at the junction with St Matthew Street in Burton.
