Cambs boy with severe autism given wonderful gift by community

A Huntingdon[1] boy with severe autism, ADHD and significant learning difficulties will finally get the car seat he needs after a fundraiser saw a £2,600 target smashed. Ethan Broughton, 11, has struggled during car journeys without a proper seat – sometimes causing him to smash car windows and try to get out onto the road.

Ethan’s mum, Sharon Broughton, said: “We are pleased to be able to buy the wheelchair, and have now ordered it. You have to do everything yourself if you have a son like mine. Ethan is a nightmare in the car. He has smashed car windows and tried to get out from the windows.

“Unless we have a carer in the car, we need a proper car seat. I take Ethan everywhere with me but have to plan ahead every time to make sure carers are with us – and hope that they don’t go off sick.”

The GoFundMe fundraiser has gained £2,640 in donations, £40 over the amount needed for Ethan’s car seat. Sharon used the platform previously when Ethan needed his wheelchair, and successfully reached the money needed that time as well.

On the GoFundMe page, Sharon explains: “The waiting lists for most charities are currently at over 12 months. Unfortunately, Ethan can not wait that long and we are in desperate need of a new seat – especially for the winter months.”
