Barnsley FC team coach catches fire causing M5 disruption
The Barnsley Football Club coach has caught fire and caused disruption on the M5 today (October 7). Traffic was halted on the busy motorway after the coach caught fire at around 8pm. Emergency services attended the scene near junction 11A (Gloucester/Cirencester) as long queues built in both directions.
Barnsley players and staff were returning home from a fixture against Exeter City. The club has confirmed that no injuries were sustained in the incident.
A statement from Barnsley FC reads: “We can confirm that on the way back from our fixture against Exeter City this evening, our club coach suffered complications and subsequently caught fire. All players and staff on board were evacuated safely. Everyone is in good health.
“We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response. The club will make no further comment at this time and is focused on ensuring the safe return of staff and players.”
