A12 likely to be shut for rest of the day as National HIghways …
The A12 northbound in Essex is likely to be shut for the rest of the day as “emergency repairs” are carried out following overrunning roadworks[1]. The road is shut between junction 25 and 26 at Marks Tey and Stanway where overnight work was due to complete by 5am.
National Highways said they have encountered “unexpected complications” which has resulted in the closure stretching into today (October 28). Traffic monitoring site Inrix is now advising the closure is likely to be in place for the rest of the day.
There are delays of up to one hour for those travelling north as traffic is diverted away from the duel carriageway. There are around four miles of queues leading up to the closure. National Highways posted on X (formerly Twitter): “If you’re heading #A12 in #Essex, please be aware the carriageway is now closed northbound within J25 (#MarksTey).
“Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads of J25. Approx. 4 miles of congestion on approach, please allow an extra 45 minutes travel time. Delays of up to 1 hour on the #A12 northbound remain in place due to the ongoing closure within J25 #MarksTey.
“Please plan ahead of your journey if you’re travelling in the area this afternoon.” The congestion leads back to junction 23 with Kelvedon south. Bus routes 371 and X71 are also diverting away from the duel carriageway.

In a statement, National Highways said: “National Highways is advising road users of congestion on the A12 junction 25 northbound. Planned overnight roadworks on the A12 encountered unexpected complications.
“This has resulted in a delay in the planned reopening of the affected stretch of the A12, and restrictions remain in place between junction 25 and 26 northbound. National Highways assure road users that they are working quickly and efficiently to complete the essential work and reopen the route as soon as possible.”
