Scene of fiery crash on Philadelphia Turnpike

Three people have died after three vehicles, including a tanker truck carrying jet fuel, were involved in a fiery crash on a Pennsylvania highway.

Police said the incident began late Saturday morning when a white Acura got a flat tire while traveling northbound on Interstate 476 on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Montgomery County, according to NBC affiliate WGAL[1] and FOX affiliate WTXF-TV[2].

A second vehicle, traveling behind the Acura, put on its hazard lights before coming to a stop in an attempt to help the disabled vehicle, WGAL and ABC affiliate WPVI-TV[3] reported.

The tanker truck was then unable to stop in time, and slammed into both vehicles, sparking a massive blaze that engulfed all three vehicles.

The drivers of the truck and second vehicle — described by CBS affiliate KYW-TV[5] as a work van — died at the scene, according to WTXF-TV. A passenger in the second vehicle died, as well.

Per reports, the driver of the Acura was transported to a local hospital. Their condition remains unclear at this time.

The victims’ identities have not been released. Pennsylvania State Police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Various videos of the crash, which have been circulating on social media, show all three vehicles engulfed in flames. A trail of debris can be seen behind the vehicles, as well.

Photos of the accident's aftermath, shared by WPVI-TV and KYW-TV[7], show the second vehicle sandwiched between the Acura and the tanker. The airbag in the vehicle seemingly deployed.

The northbound side of the turnpike was closed for several hours[8], according to authorities with the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
