12 photos of flooding in region as roads closed and cars stranded
Storm Babet has swept across the country today with Merseyside battered by heavy rain.
A Met Office yellow weather warning for rain was put into effect for parts of Merseyside today, on Friday, October 20 as the storm ravaged the country. The storm, which is the second named storm of the season, arrived this week bringing strong winds and heavy rain.[1]
A number of roads across the region were closed due to flooding, with parts of Wirral worst affected. Residents living on Ferry Road in Eastham, which was submerged in flood water as the rain set in on Thursday, claim it is a continuous problem and has caused five cars to be wrote off.[2][3][4]
Due to the torrential weather public transport services were affected with Merseysrail announcing that “due to ongoing severe weather in the South Wirral area, on Saturday, October 21 rail replacement buses will operate from the start of service between Rock Ferry to Chester and Rock Ferry to Ellesmere Port.
Meanwhile in another area of Wirral a Fiat 500 driver and passenger had to call in help[7] to get their car out of a flooded Neston Road. Our ECHO photographer Iain Watts needed to push the Fiat 500 off the road, after it became stuck in rain water.
Brimstage Lane was also closed and police were called in to restrict access to the road after it became flooded.
Below are some pictures from across the region, which shows the extent of the flooding in our area.
