Woman suffers serious injuries in three-vehicle crash on A511 near …

A woman had to be cut out of car after a three-vehicle pile-up on the A511 near Coalville[1] this morning. Fire crews had to cut the roof off a car to free the trapped woman, who was subsequently taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police were called just after 11.30am to the Hoo Ash roundabout, where two cars and a van had been involved in a collision. The road, between the roundabout and Flagstaff Island, was closed in both directions.

An air ambulance was also called to the scene and landed in a nearby field. Drivers were urged to avoid the area while the incident was dealt with.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crews from Coalville and Shepshed were called to the scene at 11.01am. We completed a full roof removal to free a trapped female casualty.

“She was taken to Queen’s Medical [Centre, In Nottingham] for observation with injuries to her chest, legs and pelvis.” No other injuries were reported.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “Police were called to a report of a collision involving three vehicles – a Vauxhall Agila, BMW 5 Series and a Ford Transit van – at the Hoo Ash roundabout on the A511 just after 11.30am. The driver of the Vauxhall – a woman – has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. No arrests have been made and officers remain at the scene.”

The road is still closed as police wait for a recovery vehicle to clear the stranded vehicles.
