West Mercia Police warning as force ‘experience issues with 999 …

West Mercia Police has issued a warning to victims of crime amid problems with 999 and 101 services. The force urged people to only call 999 in "genuine emergencies."
It said it was prioritising 999 calls and had drafted in extra help from neighbouring forces as it issued a statement around 9pm last night (Sept 9). Technical issues were said to be affecting the phone lines overnight.
The force said it is still responding to emergency incidents, while officers are providing a presence in communities. Technicians were understood to be "working round the clock to resolve the issue."
The statement reads: "We are experiencing issues with our 999 and 101 phone lines and are asking the public to only use 999 for genuine emergencies. Our contingency plans are up and running and we are, of course, still responding to emergency incidents and officers remain visible and working within our communities.
"Calls to 999 are being prioritised and neighbouring forces are assisting us with this, as is standard procedure. Our technicians are working round the clock to resolve the issue.
"We'd like to thank you for your cooperation and we will update you as soon as possible."
