Warning to parents as schoolkids risk their lives on train tracks

Police have issued a warning to parents as children were spotted risking their lives on train tracks.

Officers from Merseyside Police[1] and British Transport Police received a report from a train driver on Monday, September 18 of youths crossing the railway line near to Whiston[2] train station.

Police[3] said it is believed the primary schoolchildren were aged between eight and nine-years-old. Officers from Knowsley Police said these railway tracks are particularly dangerous as they are used by commuter trains “travelling very fast” but also by larger goods trains carrying freight.

A spokesperson for the Knowsley Police branch of Merseyside Police[6] said: “Officers have assisted colleagues from the British Transport Police this afternoon following a report from a train driver of youths crossing the railway line near to Whiston Train Station.

“The youths are believed to be aged approximately eight or nine-years-old. Please can we request that parents and guardians talk to your children, particularly in the local area and educate them about the dangers of playing on or crossing the railway.

“This section of railway is not only used by commuter trains travelling very fast but also by larger goods trains.”
