Two in Royal Stoke as car and recovery truck smash shuts A50

Police are appealing for witnesses after a crash between a car and a recovery truck left two people in hospital and the A50 shut. And following the crash an HGV was also found ‘stuck’ at the central reservation.

StokeonTrentLive reported[1] yesterday how the smash had left the eastbound carriageway from Blythe Bridge[2] shut for around four hours. At the height of the incident a lane was also shut on the opposite side sparking long rush-hour delays.

Today and Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which occurred at around 2.55pm. Paramedics have confirmed a man and a woman were taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.[3][4]

A police spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a recovery truck, with a load, on the A50 from Stoke-on-Trent towards Uttoxeter, near to Checkley. Following the collision, a HGV was then stuck at the central reservation.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “On arrival we discovered two patients, a man and a woman, from the same car. They were both treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.”
