Train services between Nottingham and Skegness face disruption due to essential works

Lincolnshire train services will face disruption and travellers will need to find alternative transport while essential work is carried out. From Friday, September 22, engineers will be working next to Hubberts Bridge[1] level crossing on the Boardsides and by the level crossing on the A52 Sleaford Road[2].

Train services[3] between Nottingham and Skegness[4] will be disrupted, with buses replacing trains along part of the route, and there will be road closures in places at the two crossings. Steve Hopkinson, the operations director for Network Rail’s East Midlands route, warned of longer journey times for those travelling by both car and train.

He said: “The work at Hubberts Bridge and Boston will see decades-old track being replaced to improve reliability for our passengers travelling between Nottingham and Skegness. We appreciate that the work will cause some disruption and extended journey times for both rail passengers and motorists, and we’d like to thank them in advance for their patience and understanding while we carry out this essential work.”

The Hubberts Bridge station will be closed for track renewals from Friday night until Monday morning (September 25), with overnight work continuing until Thursday, September 28.

As a result, from 10pm Friday until 6.30am Thursday, Hubberts Bridge Road will be closed to all vehicles at the A1121 junction.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for traffic while pedestrian access to the footbridge will be reinstated from Monday.

The work planned for the level crossing just south of Boston train station will involve similar closures.

A continuous closure will be in place on the A52 over the level crossing between 9.30pm on Friday and 7am on Monday.

The road will then be shut overnight, from 9.30pm Monday until 6am Tuesday (September 26) while the road markings are repainted.

These closures will affect both drivers and pedestrians, though access to the station and the footbridge over the railway line will be unimpeded.

Network Rail says the works will result in a smoother surface for road users and improved safety, with clearer road markings.

East Midlands Railway (EMR) will be operating a rail replacement bus service between Sleaford and Skegness on Saturday and Sunday (September 23 and 24).

Buses will stop at Heckington, Boston, and Wainfleet.

Emma Davis, head of customer experience at EMR, said that customers looking at travelling to or from Skegness that weekend should allow ‘plenty of time’ for their journeys.
