Train disruption expected in Oxfordshire as engineering works to hit …
Train passengers have been warned to plan ahead as weekend engineering works on railways in Oxfordshire are set to take place. Line closures in and around the county are also scheduled for the remainder of September and leading into October.
The works and closures are set to cause disruptions for Chiltern Railways, one of the main services running through the county. Passengers with Chiltern Railways can expect a limited service[1] running until the beginning of October.
A spokesperson for Chiltern Railways said: “Chiltern Railways would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while these vital engineering works take place, and apologise for any inconvenience caused. The operator is aware of further industrial action announced by the ASLEF union in October, and will update customers on service provision when this is confirmed.
“Customers can check their full journey before they travel on the Chiltern Railways website (www.chilternrailways.co.uk[3]) or app.” Chiltern Railways operates services in Bicester, Oxford, and Banbury[4] heading through neighbouring Buckinghamshire towards London.
Here is as guide to the disruptions expected over the coming days:
Saturday, September 23, Sunday, September 24 and Sunday, October 1
Services between London Marylebone and Birmingham Moor Street, which call at Haddenham & Thame Parkway, Bicester[5] North, Kings Sutton, and Banbury, are expected to be busier due to engineering works on the West Coast Main Line between London Euston and Birmingham New Street. An enhanced Chiltern Railways service will operate with additional and longer trains.
No Chiltern Railways services will call at Kings Sutton, Lapworth and Hatton stations, with rail replacement buses in operation.
Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 30
Engineering works will mean that buses replace trains between Princes Risborough and Banbury from 11pm.
Any customers travelling during the late evening on this day are advised to check before they travel.
Sunday, September 24
Engineering works mean that the railway is closed in the Bicester Village area. Customers travelling between Marylebone and departing at either Bicester Village, Islip, Oxford Parkway and Oxford[6], should travel via Bicester North.
A rail replacement bus will connect Bicester North and Bicester Village[7] stations for onward travel.
Friday, September 29
Owing to the further engineering works, the railway will be closed between Aylesbury Vale Parkway and Amersham between 10am and 6pm on Friday, September 29. Rail replacement buses are in operation between these stations.
Sunday, October 1
Engineering works will close the railway between Haddenham & Thame Parkway and Bicester[8] until approximately 8.35am. During this period, rail replacement buses will operate between Princes Risborough and Banbury/Oxford.
Customers travelling during the early morning are advised to check before they travel.
