Sections of busy road near Glasgow to close for three weeks

Starting next week, the A726 between West Mains Roundabout and Eaglesham Roundabout will see closures of the nearside lane in one direction at a time on the northbound and southbound carriageways.

The closure, which starts on September 4 and will be carried out between 9.30am and 3.30pm daily, comes as active travel improvements over the College Milton Rail are being made.

The work is said to benefit existing pedestrians and cyclists who currently use this section of the local cycle network each day by widening the existing shared footway.

It will also encourage more users to walk, cycle and wheel for health[1], leisure and commuting purposes which aligns with the Scottish Government’s and Transport Scotland’s objectives to cut carbon emissions by providing higher quality active travel infrastructure.

Pedestrian and cyclist access to the shared footway will be maintained throughout the works and pedestrians and cyclists who require assistance will be escorted through the works where footway closures are required.

Access to emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
