Roadworks cause severe delays across Reading
Reading Buses reported delays of 2.5hours on one route travelling from Reading town centre to IKEA while others reported being stuck in traffic for nearly 30 minutes.
While another woman who had left The Oracle Riverside Car Park at 4.45pm didn't get onto the A4 until 5.15pm due to gridlock traffic.
It comes as the council is carrying out roadworks on the A4 with the road partially shut.
One woman described the number of roadworks happening in both west Reading and within the town as a "disaster".
Tweeting Reading Borough Council, she said: "All these roadworks at the same time is ridiculous. @ReadingCouncil and @WestBerkshire you seriously need to talk to each other. Works in Calcot are a disaster and set to last until December. Not on."
Casey Byrne, Conservative candidate for Tilehurst, has complained to the council about the situation. He said he was "gravely" concerned about the council's ability to carry out transport management of the area and criticised the authority for closing the A4 on the day children went back to school.
The A4 Bath Road and Oxford Road are currently undergoing roadworks.
British Gas's distribution company SGN is upgrading the network on Bath Road and Berkeley Avenue until the end of the month.
The firm is also working on the A4 Bath Road at the Savacentre junction, with lane closures in place until December 4.
Elsewhere, Network Rail is carrying out works to improve Reading West train statuon including building a new ticket office, with works scheduled to end on October 21.
