Police update after security guard dies 18 days being injured at …

Police have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a security guard who was fatally injured at Creamfields. Michael Smith[1], from Newcastle-under-Lyme, had been helping to clear up the festival site, in Daresbury, Cheshire, on Monday, August 28, when the incident happened.

Officers revealed at the time that the 47-year-old – who was better known as Bruno – was taken to hospital in a serious condition. After spending 18 days in the Walton Centre fighting for his life, he passed away on Friday, September 15.

The news that Michael – who had also worked as a trainer in gyms across Newcastle-under-Lyme – had died was shared by his family on the Creamfields community group, the Echo[2] reports.

Cheshire Police[3] have now established, after working with the local authority and Health and Safety executive, there appears to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A file is now being prepared for the coroner.

Tributes have been flooding in for Michael since news of his death broke over the weekend. He was well known across Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent, having worked as a trainer and boxercise coach at JD Gyms, Xercise4less and Greens. A Gofundme page[6] set up by the family has raised more than £3,050 so far. It reads: “In light of the heroic efforts to save Bruno, we the family feel it only right to donate all proceeds to the specialist unit that cared so tirelessly for him. We hope by donating that this small gesture may go some way to saving someone’s life in the future.”
