Police ‘inundated’ with complaints over A34 ‘race track’
Police have been ‘inundated’ with complaints about motorists turning one of North Staffordshire’s busiest roads into a glorified race track. Specialist officers with the force’s roads policing unit say they have received scores of reports of ‘car cruising’ and ‘anti-social driving’ on the A34 going from Trentham into Newcastle.[1][2][3]
StokeonTrentLive reported earlier this month[4] how residents had spotted spectators lining the dual-carriageway as the stretch was turned into an ‘organised race track’. Families say the problem appears worse in the 60mph zone going past the Trentham Estate towards Tittensor.
In response officers with Stoke-on-Trent South Local Policing Team – which has responsibility for the area – had said those using roads as race tracks and car parks as ‘performance areas’ would be ‘dealt with accordingly’. Now roads policing officers have been monitoring the stretch as complaints continue.
On Friday night they said one motorist was handed a Section 59 warning – which meant if caught again the car would be taken off them. It came as the motorist ‘decided to kick the bend end out’ on the island by the Monkey Forest.
The officers wrote: “We are inundated with complaints about car cruising and anti-social driving on the A34.”
