Police ask people to avoid area after vehicle hits bridge

A vehicle has hit the bridge at Ely[1] train station, known as Stuntney Road Bridge, causing road closures. The police are asking people to avoid the area.

The incident was first reported on East Cambridgeshire Police’s Twitter account at 1.53pm. The post said: “Road Closures at Ely Train Station Bridge – a vehicle has hit the bridge. Avoid the area for the foreseeable future.”

This railway bridge was named the fifth most-hit[2] in Britain in 2022, with vehicles striking it 12 times in one year. It previously topped the list[3].
