Person rescued and two more taken to hospital after Whitstable …

A person was rescued from a large house fire in Whitstable[1] and then taken to hospital alongside two other people last night (September 28). The blaze took hold of a home in Cromwell Road shortly after 11pm.

A large emergency service response took the scene, including police, four fire engines and ambulance crews. A section of Cromwell Road was cordoned off while the fire was tackled.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS)[2] crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the flames. A KFRS spokesperson said: “Firefighters rescued one person from the property, who was passed into the care of SECAmb for suspected smoke inhalation.

“Two other people were also treated by paramedics after breathing in smoke.” A spokesperson for the South East Coast Ambulance Service has confirmed that the three patients were assessed and treated before being taken to the QEQM Hospital in Margate.[5][6]

No other injuries were reported and KFRS marked the incident clear at 1.53am this morning. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

A Kent Police[7] spokesperson added: “Kent Police was called to a report of a house fire at 11.16pm on Thursday 28 September 2023. Officers attended Cromwell Road, Whitstable, to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service who extinguished the flames. Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire.”
