Negotiators called in as ‘man in distress’ locked in house refuses to …

Police, firefighters and paramedics have flooded a Stoke-on-Trent street as a ‘man in distress’ remains locked in a Stoke-on-Trent property – and is refusing to come out. Staffordshire Police[1] officers armed with shields – and some emergency service workers carrying what appears to be climbing gear – are currently in Nash Peak Street, Tunstall[2].

West Midlands Ambulance Service’s[3] Hazardous Area Response Team has also been scrambled to the scene, along with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service[4]. The road is taped off, with several police and ambulance service vehicles parked up.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said specialist negotiators were speaking to the man in a bid to get him out of the terraced house safely. The alarm was raised at around 10am – and officers have now been at the scene more than six hours today, September 28.

The spokesperson said: “We are currently at the scene of an ongoing incident at a property on Nash Peake Street in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. We were called to the address shortly after 10am this morning (28 September) following reports of a man in distress.
