Motorists using roads near the A417 are set to face reduced speed limits and road closures this week as part of the Missing Link project. The works are already in place.

They are among many road works that are due to take place this week and in the coming weeks which have been listed by Gloucestershire County Council[1].

The county council announces road closures[2] in the county every week, this can be for carriageway resurfacing, installing utilities, or for another valid purpose. Cotswolds

A417 Missing link

A temporary closure and 30mph speed restriction will be in place on roads and footways near the A417 Missing Link. Gloucestershire County Council will temporarily close part of the roads as detailed in the schedule below.

All roads listed below will be fully closed, along with the footway, as well as a 30mph speed restriction, all of which will be in place 24 hours a day. The changes are in the Cowley, Coberley and Brimpsfield parishes.

The reason for the closures is for construction of National Highways Major Projects A417 Missing Link Scheme. The roads are expected to be closed on a rolling programme starting Thursday September 21, 2023, where the presence of approved signage will indicate whether the closures and restrictions are in force.

Further advance warnings of dates/times will be displayed on site prior to the closures taking effect. This order can permit the closure of the roads in any order, or simultaneously as required and it is anticipated all works will be completed by March 20, 2025.

Speed restriction

Gloucestershire County Council has also made an order to temporarily restrict part of the A417 Missing Link Scheme roads as described in the above Schedule, to a speed of 30mph.

The speed restriction is necessary to provide a safe environment for road workers moving heavy plant vehicles.

Alternative route: as signed on site. Emergency access will be maintained. Pedestrian access will NOT be maintained due to health and safety fears.

Cheltenham

Shurdington

Tree cutting works on Farm Lane, Shurdington mean Gloucestershire County Council will temporarily close part of the road from outside number 2 Leckhampton Farm Cottage to its junction with Church Road or a total distance of about 222 metres.

The road is expected to be closed between 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday September 25 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route: As signed on site. Pedestrian access to premises on or next to the road and emergency access will be maintained.

Hester’s Way

Gloucestershire County Council intends to temporarily close part of A4013 Princess Elizabeth Way footway from outside Edward Wilson House Flat to the junction of Hester’s Way Road for about 20 metres. The reason for the closure is for utility services works.

The above footway is expected to be closed from Monday October 9 until Sunday October 26 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Emergency access will be maintained. Pedestrian access will not be maintained as an alternative route is available.

Leckhampton

Lining and signing works along part of Leckhampton Road means there will be a closure from outside number 250 Bath Road to outside number 376 Old Bath Road for about 1.75 kilometres.

The road is expected to be closed from 7pm until 6am between Monday October 2 and Tuesday October 31 or until the works are completed, whichever is later.

Alternative Route: As signed on site. Pedestrian access to premises on or next to the road and emergency access will be maintained. There will be no loading or waiting permitted throughout the duration of the works.

Tewkesbury

Gotherington

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of the public footpaths as defined in the schedule below.

The closure is necessary to safeguard the public while site clearance and archaeological digs are undertaken. The order comes into force on Thursday September 28 and it is anticipated that the footpaths will remain closed until January 31, 2024.

This order authorises the closure for a period of up to six months. After this date if the closure is still required it will be necessary to apply to the Secretary of State for an extension.

Alternative route: as shown on order plan. Emergency service access and pedestrian access to adjoining properties will be maintained.

SCHEDULE

Part of Public Footpath AGO 17 from its junction with Public Footpath AGO18 & AGO 44 in a generally southerly direction for about 67 metres and from its junction with AGO 19 in a generally south easterly direction for about 51 metres to its junction with Footway from Ashmead Drive to Pullen Court.

Public Footpath AGO 18 from its junction with Public Footpath AGO 17 & AGO 44 in a generally southerly easterly direction for about 210 metres to its junction with Public Footpath AGO 20.

Public Footpath AGO 19 from its junction with Public Footpath AGO 17 in a generally south westerly direction for about 245 metres to its junction with AGO20.

Part of Public Footpath AGO 44 from its junction with Public Footpath AGO 17 & AGO 18 in a generally south westerly direction for about 30 metres.

Minsterworth

Gloucestershire County Council will close part of Oakle Street from its junction with the A48 to outside Brook Farm for about 340 metres. The reason is excavation in the carriageway and verge to install Gigaclear ducting and service points.

The road is expected to be closed from 8am Monday September 25 until 5pm Monday October 2 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Bentham

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of Dark Lane from its junction with Whitelands Lane to its junction with Dog Lane for about 600 metres. The reason for the closure is to allow for tree cutting.

The road is expected to be closed between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm on Thursday September 28 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Twyning

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of Puckrup Lane from its junction with the A38 to its junction with the county boundary for about 600 metres. The reason is to clear broadband blockages in carriageway and verge.

The road is expected to be closed from 8am Thursday September 28 until 5pm Wednesday October 11 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Badgeworth

Gloucestershire County Council wants to temporarily close part of Whitelands Lane Road, Little Shurdington, from its junction with A46 Shurdington Road to its junction with Little Shurdington for about 260 metres. This is to allow for safe access to lay a new duct and complete tree cutting.

The road is expected to be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm Tuesday October 10 or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Little Buckland, near Broadway

Gloucestershire County Council wants to temporarily close part of Little Buckland Road, Broadway from its junction with the B4632 to outside ‘Archers Farm’ for about 250 metres. The reason is for the rebuilding of a hydrant chamber within the carriageway.

The road is expected to be closed from 8am Monday October 9 until 6pm Wednesday October 11 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Northway

Maintenance works on a Network Rail level crossing means part of Grange Road, Northway, will be temporarily closed. The closure is from a point at the railway level crossing to a point 850m east of the railway line for about 850 metres.

The road is expected to be closed from 10pm Saturday October 14 until 8am Sunday October 15 only, or until the works have been completed, whichever is later.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Emergency and Pedestrian access will NOT be maintained due to nature and safety risk of works.

Badgeworth

Tree cutting means part of Little Shurdington Road from its junction with Whitelands Lane to outside ‘Hunters Barn’ will be temporarily closed for about 40 metres.

The road is expected to be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm Thursday October 12 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – not applicable as dead end road. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Twyning

The construction of a new water connection will lead to part of Hill End Road in Twyning being closed. The closure is from outside ‘Bavon Cottages’ to outside ‘Malbre’ for about 125 metres.

The road is expected to be closed from 8am Tuesday October 10 until 5pm Thursday October 12 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Forest of Dean

Staunton

Gloucestershire County Council will temporarily close part of Moat Lane outside Moat Farm for about 10 metres. The reason is to renew a Severn Trent Water boundary box.

The road is expected to be closed from Monday September 25 until Wednesday September 27 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative route: as signed on site. Emergency and pedestrian access to adjacent properties will be maintained.
