Moment machete and hammer fight erupts in 24-hour city …

Disorder erupted at a Birmingham 24-hour convenience store after a man threatened a shopkeeper with a hammer in the early hours of the morning. A hooded man then enters the store brandishing a machete as the trouble escalates.

The shocking incident - which was captured on CCTV and shared online - happened at Bob Shop on Stratford Road in Sparkhill[1]. Initially, a man wearing a baseball cap appears threatening as he shouts at the worker behind the till.

He then begins to smash up the shop displays with a hammer as the pair argue, at around 5am, on Tuesday, September 26. Footage then shows another man enter the shop and confront him.

The machete-wielder is seen hitting the man before both run out of the shop. He is also chased out of the store by the shopkeeper holding a broom handle.

Further footage has been shared online showing two men fighting in the street on nearby Ladypool Road. It is not clear if that incident is linked to the shop disorder.

A West Midlands Police[3] spokeswoman told BirminghamLive: "We were called at around 5.20am on Tuesday (September 26) after a shop worker was threatened with a hammer on Stratford Road, Birmingham.

"The worker then chased the suspect out of the shop with a broom handle. No items were stolen and no one was injured.
