Metrolink trams halted over ‘ongoing police incident’ in Manchester …

Trams have been suspended in Manchester city centre over an ‘ongoing police incident’.

Transport for Greater Manchester said due to the incident, trams were unable to operate through Piccadilly station.

The Ashton line is suspended.

Bury line services will operate to Deansgate-Castlefield, with Altrincham line services to Victoria and Weaste to Crumpsall only.

The nature of the incident is as yet unknown. Tickets are being accepted on buses.

Metrolink said on its website: “Due to an ongoing police incident, a number of Metrolink service changes are currently in place:

  • Ashton line – Currently suspended
  • Altrincham line – Services are operating to Victoria
  • Bury line – Services are operating to Deansgate-Castlefield
  • MediaCityUK line – Weaste services are operating to Crumpsall

“Tickets & passes are being accepted on the 7, 76, 76a 171, 172, 216, 219, 230, 231 bus services.”

The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police for comment. No further details have been revealed.
