Met Office warns thunderstorms over Cambs could cause flooding …

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms over Cambridgeshire[1] on Tuesday (September 12). The warning covers most of the county, including Cambridge, Ely[2], and Huntingdon[3].

It is in place from 12pm to 8pm and was issued on Tuesday morning. Heavy rain is forecast for several parts of the county[4] on Tuesday.

The Met Office said heavy showers and thunderstorms could lead to disruption. The warning said: “Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

“There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads. There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services. There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes or strong winds.”
