Met Office issues Devon weather warning – but not for Plymouth

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for strong winds which are expected to hit parts of Devon next week – but not for Plymouth. The alert currently comes into force on Wednesday, September 27, at 10am and will remain in place until 7am the following day, September 28.

The alert covers North Devon and other parts of the country including the north coast of Cornwall. Plymouth and areas of the South Hams and West Devon are not covered by the warning. People have been warned that disruption could be caused by the weather.

On its website, the Met Office states: “A spell of strong winds is expected to move northeast through Wednesday, with a small chance that they could be significantly disruptive.”

It also lists what people can expect from the weather warning which includes a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris, a slight chance of some damage to buildings and longer journey times are likely, or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.

The weather forecast for the south west today is a windy day with coastal gales possible, especially through the afternoon. It will be mostly cloudy with some rain at first, turning patchy with some brighter spells developing during the afternoon. The maximum temperature will be 19°C.

Tonight, cloud will thicken as a band of showery rain moves eastwards. It will turn drier from the west overnight, with clear spells into Monday morning. Winds ease slightly, although it will still be breezy. The minimum temperature will be 13°C.

It will be a dry and bright start to Monday with plenty of sunny spells. A few showers will develop into the afternoon but it will stay dry for most. Winds will ease through the afternoon. The maximum temperature will be 20°C.

The outlook for Tuesday to Thursday is remaining changeable on Tuesday with showers, perhaps heavy. Heavy rain will clear to sunnier skies on Wednesday, though it is likely to be very windy. However, it will be less windy, with sunny spells on Thursday and temperatures will be above average.
