Man killed on M5 after being hit by multiple vehicles

The death of a pedestrian on the M5 in a multi-vehicle collision has prompted a witness appeal from police. The fatal incident which involved a number of vehicles including two HGVs happened near Tiverton in Devon on Wednesday (September 6).

Today (Thursday, September 7), as investigations continue, Devon and Cornwall Police[1] are appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision which happened between junction 27 for Tiverton in Devon and 26 for Wellington in Somerset at around 5.30am yesterday. A 34-year-old male pedestrian from the Northamptonshire area was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

It was reported that the collision involved a number of vehicles[2], including two heavy goods vehicles, that had collided with a pedestrian on the northbound carriageway of the motorway. The road was closed while a forensic investigation was carried out.

The southbound carriageway was reopened at 10am, and the northbound at 4pm. Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed.
