M&S drama as bomb squad swoop on retail park and shoppers told …
There was drama at one of Birmingham’s busiest retail parks this weekend when police swooped and evacuated a store due to a bogus bomb threat. Shoppers inside the M&S[1] on Coventry Road in Sheldon[2] were ordered to leave immediately on Saturday, September 23.
There were reports of police dogs scouring the area and everyone being “told to get out” as an alarm blared in the background. The incident, on the border of Birmingham and Solihull[3], happened just before 5pm.
West Midlands Police[4] said the incident came after somebody called in a fake bomb threat. The force confirmed it was investigating.
POLL: Should Birmingham follow Wales and impose a 20mph speed limit on restricted roads?[6]
A statement read: “We were called just after 4.45pm on September 23 to Sheldon Retail Park after a store received a call from someone making a bomb threat. The store was evacuated and specialist officers along with our dog unit attended.
“We did an extensive search of the area and thankfully nothing suspicious was found. We take threats of this nature very seriously and our enquiries are continuing.”
