M5 reopens after crash near Weston-super-Mare

All traffic was held on the M5 in Somerset following a crash this afternoon (September 29). The collision took place heading northbound near Weston-super-Mare at around 3.40pm.

The crash is said to have involved a car and led to long delays. The motorway fully reopened and traffic returned to normal by 4.30pm.

Inrix says: “Traffic easing, earlier accident on M5 Northbound at J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare). Traffic was held around 15:50 until 16:00 to move the vehicles to the hard shoulder from lane three ( of three).”

Earlier today, the M5 was closed following a collision involving seven vehicles in Gloucestershire. Inrix confirmed the collision on the northbound carriageway between Thornbury and Stroud at around 2pm.

The motorway is among the busiest holiday routes in the country and is regularly congested on Fridays, come rain or shine. While peak holiday season is behind us, thousands of people will still have plans for the weekend – and the weather looks set to improve.[2]
