M5 traffic LIVE: ‘Animals in the road’ cause heavy delays in Somerset

Traffic has been heavily delayed on the M5[1] in Somerset this morning (Saturday, September 2) amid reports of "animals in the road".

Vehicles have been held on the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 20 at Clevedon[2] and 19 at Portishead[3] after it was reported that animals had got onto the road near the Avonmouth bridge.

The incident has reportedly caused congestion to junction 18 on the northbound side of the motorway and junction 21 on the southbound side.

It is unclear what animals got onto the road at this stage, or whether any collisions have occurred as a result of the incident.
