Live Canterbury travel updates after lorry crashes into barrier at …
Commuters are facing disruption near Canterbury[1] this morning (September 20) as a crash at a level crossing has forced trains to stop and a road to close. The incident has taken place at the Broad Oak level crossing, where a lorry has crashed into the barrier.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers are at the scene and Shallock Road has been closed as a result. A BTP spokesperson said: “We are on scene at Broad Oak level crossing as a vehicle has crashed into the barrier. This has left the crossing unsafe to use and we have had to close the road.”
The spokesperson added Kent Police officers were there assisting with road closures, and a Network Rail team was also on site. Queuing traffic has been reported in the area.
The latest update from traffic monitoring service Inrix states: “Shalloak Road in both directions partially blocked, queueing traffic due to accident, a lorry involved and level crossing failure from Vauxhall Road (Sturry) to Bluebell Woods Caravan Park (Broad Oak). A lorry has reported to have driven into the level crossing which are now no longer working.”
