Jealous Willington pub chef attacks partner then stamps on face of …
A chef at a South Derbyshire pub attacked his vulnerable parter - then dragged a man he thought was his love rival out of bed and stamped on his face. Ashbley McManamon's family run Green Man in Willington[1] - and while there, he threw a mobile phone at his now-ex's face, before slapping her.
He then walked to a canal boat near the pub, where his second victim lived, and attacked him as he lay in bed. Derby Crown Court[2] heard the 28-year-old fractured the man's eye sockets in the attack.
His former girlfriend, and mother of his young daughter, had to stop living with him and now wants a restraining order to be put out against him. Handing McManamon an 18-month jail term, suspended for 18 months, Recorder James Dawson said:[3] “I consider her to be a vulnerable victim because of her autism but I do not think this was particularly planned on her. I was an impulsive and spontaneous attack.
“(The male victim) was asleep in his bed at the time of this attack and you entered his home in order to attack him and you had to walk some distance so this was not impulsive in my view. You then stamped on him which was akin to using a weapon.”
Fergus Malone, prosecuting, said both assaults happened in the early hours of March 18, this year. He said McManamon returned home from a night out at 2am drunk and asked his partner how the karaoke evening, which was run by the male victim, had gone.
The prosecutor said: “He then took her mobile phone and started going through her messages. He was angry about a message between them and she went outside to the car park to get some air.
“He threw her mobile phone at her and it hit her in the face. She walked into the flat at the pub; he followed her and slapped her to the face and left. He then returned around half-an-hour later and said ‘I have been to the boat and sorted it out, I have got his blood on my shoes’ and he did have blood on his shoes.”
Mr Malone said the male victim was taken to hospital after being assaulted and told police he had been in bed asleep when the defendant walked in, dragged him and stamped on him “seven or eight times”, DerbyshireLive[6] reports.
In her victim impact statement, the ex-partner told how she did not know anyone when she first moved to Willington to live with McManamon and his family but made friends quickly. She said since the assault she has moved out and lost those friends.
The defendant pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating and a section 20 wounding grievous bodily harm charge. He has never been in trouble with the police before.
Simn Stevens, mitigating, said his client works 50 hours a week at the pub as its chef and since the attacks were made public in the village he “has lost his voluntary position in the community, lost friends and lost his partner which is all down to his own actions”. He said: “He knows the injuries he caused were nasty and completely unnecessary.”
As part of the suspended sentence order, Recorder Dawson ordered McManamon to carry out 200 hours unpaid work and to attend 25 rehabilitation sessions with the probation service.
