Drivers can still make savings by switching to an electric vehicle soon, despite the delayed ban on new petrol cars, motor experts have claimed.
The prime minister, Rishi Sunak, moved back the deadlines on a series of green policies last week and claimed that politicians had not been “honest with the public about the cost of net zero”.
He watered down targets to phase out new gas boilers and extended the cut-off for the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 to 2035. Sunak said drivers would still be able to sell second-hand diesel and petrol cars after that date.
