Hunt for ‘suspicious’ man as schoolboy, 11, raises the alarm

Police are hunting a ‘suspicious’ man who was reported by an 11-year-old boy on a Stoke-on-Trent estate. Officers say they are trying to establish exactly what happened following the incident in Bentilee.[1]

The youngster raised the alarm after the man was seen sitting in a vehicle at on Aylesbury Road at around 7.50pm on Monday (September 18). Staffordshire Police[2] are keen to stress that the youngster was not ‘harmed in any way’ after rumours started circulating online.

Despite searching the area, neither the suspect or the vehicle could be located. Now officers are keen to speak to hear from anyone who may be able to help with the investigation.

A force spokesman said: “We are investigating a suspicious incident which happened in Stoke-on-Trent on Monday. A boy, aged 11, reported a suspicious man who was sitting in a vehicle at about 7.50pm on Aylesbury Road, Bentilee.

“The boy was not harmed and made his way home to safety. We carried out an area search once the incident was reported to us but were not able to find the vehicle.

“We’ve been speaking to the boy today to establish more about what happened and to help us progress enquiries which are currently ongoing. We understand there is speculation circulating locally about this incident.

“We are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry and are keen to speak to anyone with any information as part of our investigation.”
