Hour-by-hour forecast as Oldham prepares to be hit by Storm Agnes

The first named storm of the season is due to make landfall on the west coast of Ireland today before its strong winds hit the UK closer to midday.

The Met Office has said wind gusts are set to range between 25 and 43 mph throughout the day in Bolton.

The weather warning continues into the early hours of tomorrow (Thursday, September 28).

The wind is set to pick up at around at 1pm, when the wind speed reaches 30mph, while heavy rain is expected to hit the borough at around midday.

From around 4pm, the heavy rain is expected to lighten up, with light showers predicted for most of the late afternoon and evening, while temperatures should sit between 14°C and 16°C.

According to the Met Office, Oldhamers can expect the following:

  • Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible
  • Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen
  • Some power cuts are likely to occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible. Some roads and bridges are likely to close
  • There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life that could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties, with a chance of some minor flooding of coastal roads
