Highs of 29C in Reading and Berkshire as Indian Summer arrives

After a relatively damp summer, many people will have been left revelling in this late-season sunshine. Temperatures have risen above average and the rain appears to have largely abated.

While it has not been cold this summer, it has been noticeably damp, cloudy and somewhat disappointing. Thankfully, the Met Office[1] is forecasting a final flurry of scorching weather[2] before the autumnal conditions set in.

In Reading[3], temperatures have again exceeded 20C and are expected to get closer to 30C this week. From Monday (September 4) to Thursday (September 7) highs of 29C are forecast throughout the town before dipping slightly to 27C over the weekend.

No signs of rain currently appear on the short-term forecast meaning many of us can enjoy another weekend of summer activities. Elsewhere in the county, highs of 29C may also be felt in Bracknell[5], Wokingham[6], Windsor[7] and Maidenhead[8].

But while countless people will be enjoying the conditions, some will be keen to know how long we can expect it to last. The Met Office long-range forecast sheds some light on this and suggests we may have a relatively pleasant September.

The outlook from September 8 to 17 currently states that most places will experience humid conditions, light winds and “very warm” temperatures before becoming slightly more changeable as the month progresses. While some rain may fall at times, the southeast is expected to endure “prolonged drier weather” though temperatures may return to around average by the middle of the month.

For the period from September 18 to October 2, some slightly more changeable conditions are likely but it may stay more clement in the southeast. A mixture of mostly dry conditions will be interspersed with some rain while temperatures are likely to be above average, though confidence in the long-range forecast remains low.
