Green light for detached homes near Cheltenham Racecourse
Plans to build two detached homes in Cheltenham have been given the go-ahead. Cheltenham Borough Council[1] has granted itself permission to develop a plot of land next to a community orchard in Saville Close.
Their proposals for the five-bedroom two storey properties were considered by the planning committee on September 21. Consultants working on the scheme say the new homes will also have rooms in the roof and are of traditional design.
They will have dormer windows and juliette balconies on the back to maximise views over Pittville Park while the front elevations are more modest with reconstituted stone details. Councillor Bernie Fisher[2] (LD, Swindon Village) said: “I will support this mainly because we haven’t got a five year housing land supply.

“It was a local authority house. And, as the landowners, it would have been nice to see a development for Cheltenham Borough Homes[5] with affordable homes and probably three on there.
“That is what we really need. We probably need five bedroom houses as well but I would have preferred to see something developed by us.”
Chairman Paul Baker said the recommendation is to approve the scheme subject to conditions. And councillors voted unanimously to grant permission.
