Four Edinburgh cyclists fined by police for going through red light in …

Police[1] in Edinburgh fined four cyclists[2] for ignoring a red light in the city centre as part of a new initiative.

Road policing officers were out in South Bridge and Newington[3] recently as part of a vulnerable road users initiative with cyclists, pedestrians and drivers all being issued advice.

Officers say four cyclists were issued fixed penalty tickets for red light offences and one driver was fined for a similar offence at a pedestrian crossing as they uploaded multiple images after stopping the offenders.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, they said: "EdinburghRP were on a Vulnerable Road User initiative where cyclists, pedestrians & drivers were spoken to & given advice. 4 cyclists were given FPTs for red light offences & 1 driver was issued an FPT for red light offence on a pedestrian crossing."

On Friday, we reported how road policing officers in Livingston were out on patrol and stopped a vehicle in Threemiletown and discovered that the driver's seat was not secure, the handbrake did not work and a cut was detected on the tyre.

An image uploaded by officers showed the seat out of position and not secured to the chassis of the car as the driver was reported for multiple offences and the vehicle was seized as police across Edinburgh and the Lothians continue to crack down on driving offences to make the country's roads more secure.
