Five men named and charged over police incident that closed M42
Five men have appeared in court in connection with a major police incident that forced a closure of the M42 in Warwickshire[1]. Motorists on the northbound carriageway experienced delays and diversions on Friday, September 8, as Central Motorway Police Group officers attempted to stop a heavy goods vehicle on alleged cloned plates.
The lorry had allegedly failed to stop for police and was stung just before Junction 7, for the M6[2] link, and again at Junction 9, for Curdworth / M6 Toll, where it came to a stop. On board, 200 crates of stolen spirits worth £85,000 were recovered, West Midlands Police[3] said.
Officers say a police vehicle was rammed and several other cars were hit in the incident, leaving one officer with broken ribs and another with a back injury. Five men, all from Birmingham, have now been charged in connection with the incident.
Adam Leek, 40, of Radleys Walk, was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, two counts of assault of an emergency worker, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified and without insurance.
Reiss Crombie, 32, of Wyndhurst Road, James Delaney, 36, of Monica Road, Samuel Hall, 29, of Langton Close, and 22-year-old Joshua Selvey, of The Radleys, were all charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, with an additional charge of possession of cannabis for Hall and Selvey.
After appearing at Birmingham Magistrates Court, Leek and Hall were remanded in custody. The other three were released on conditional bail to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on October 9.
