Fire crews race to Edinburgh City Bypass as car becomes engulfed …

A major Edinburgh road has been blocked off after a car became engulfed in flames.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 9.26am on Sunday morning of a vehicle fire.

Traffic Scotland warned drivers that the Edinburgh City Bypass is closed Eastbound at Lothian Burn.

There have been no reports of casualties.

Taking to Twitter, Traffic Scotland told drivers: “#A720 is closed Eastbound at Lothianburn due to a vehicle fire.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were in attendance at the Edinburgh City Bypass. We got a call at 9.26am of a vehicle fire. Two fire appliances attended. There were no reports of casualties.”

At 10.15am, the road reopened but drivers were warned to take care as traffic is still busy with the area.
