East Lancashire Road blocked after man has ‘medical episode’

East Lancashire Road was temporarily blocked after a man had a medical episode while waiting at a set of traffic lights.

Merseyside Police[1] confirmed officers received a report at around 11.25am today, Tuesday, September 26 that the man, in his 50s, had suffered the medical episode while stationary at the junction of Stopgate Lane and East Lancashire Road, Walton[2]. Officers attended shortly after and provided initial first aid.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene moments after the police then took the man to hospital. An eyewitness reported a "screen" being put around a section of the road while the emergency services treated the man.

Police officers[5] helped manage the traffic while the road was cleared. Traffic monitor INRIX reported the busy main road, which connects Kirkby[6] with the north of Liverpool[7], was partially blocked with slow traffic following the incident. The road was completely reopened shortly before 1pm.
